Topsham is a great centre from which to explore the beautiful countryside of the Exe estuary. Route 2 is so named because it is located directly on the National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 2 that is being developed by Devon County Council, Exeter City Council and Sustrans. Once completed, our stretch of Route 2 will form part of a major thoroughfare for cyclists, running from Kent all the way to Cornwall!

We can proudly claim to be the most cycle-friendly café in the area, as noted by The Guardian, who ranked us as ‘one of the top 10 cycling cafés in the UK‘.

The section that we are located on is also known as the Exe Estuary Trail. The cycle route is currently in place from Exeter to Exmouth via the lovely riverside village of Lympstone. From Exmouth there is a route that extends to Budleigh Salterton using a disused railway line, and onward to Sidmouth on quiet roads. You can also take your bike across the Exe estuary on a ferry that runs to Starcross. From there, there are quiet roads and cycle paths that lead to Powderham, Turf Locks and eventually all the way to Exeter’s quay.

If you are cycling on the Exe Estuary Trail, please drop in for refreshment or for a break. If you are looking to set out along the trail, you can park at the Holman Way car park (cheaper than Topsham Quay), and just a few minutes up the road from Route 2.

If you feel a bit more adventurous, why not jump on your bike and cycle along the Exe Estuary Trail, a 26 mile, mainly flat cycle and walkway which runs around the entire Exe Estuary linking Exmouth, Exeter and Dawlish, with fantastic views along the River Exe.
